USS Florence Nightingale (AP-70)

Photographed on 1 October 1942, probably in Hampton Roads.
The ship appears to have a full load of landing craft on deck, although her Welin davits are not fully loaded. She has the original armament of the class with a 4"/50 gun on the stern and 4-3"/50 guns, two fore and two aft.

Near the New York Navy Yard on 23 February 1944.
The twin 40mm gun mount on the raised platform forward was added between the two forward 3" guns during the ship's 1943 rearmament.

Near the New York Navy Yard on 23 February 1944.
During its 1943 rearmament the ship lost its 4"/50 gun aft and gained two 40mm twin mounts, one fore and one aft.

The apparent step in the aft side of the funnel is in fact the top of a kingpost. Note the raised 40mm twin mount between the two after 3"/50 guns.

The ship has a full loadout of landing craft and has been rearmed.
