Pothuau (Armored Cruiser): . French President Faure and Tsar Nicolas II had a state luncheon on board this ship at Kronshtadt on 26 August 1897 during which they confirmed the existence of the Franco-Russian Alliance, concluded in 1891-94. The ship's after turret was decorated for the occasion with oak and olive branches and a scroll reading "Au bord du Pothuau en rade de Cronstadt le 26 aôut 1897." Pothuau (Armored Cruiser) during World War I, probably when stationed in the Suez Canal. She was assigned on 6 March 1916 to take a defensive position at kilometer 33 of the canal on the east bank pointed south, with alternatives of kilometer 39.4 and a north orientation.
