Class. This ship was planned in 7.42 to replace the first
Brandon, lost in 12.41. Plans by Reech for her hull and machinery were approved in 6.43. Reech advocated different proportions between engines and boilers that did other engineers, and he gave the ship boilers for 160nhp and cylinders for 220nhp. The capacity of her hold was enlarged somewhat compared to the
Sphinx class to accomodate the engines.
Disposal. Brandon was BU 1867.

Class. These ships were built to provide communications in and with the Marquesas Islands, which the French had just occupied. They were to replace
Phaéton, sent there in 1843. Benet, the builder of
Narval, supplied plans for an iron-hulled version of the postal packets
Périclès and
Télémaque, designed by Moissard. The ships were funded by a special law of 23.7.43.
Disposals. Narval was BU 1877.
Australie became a coal hulk at Rochefort in 1867 and was BU 1876.
