Notes: Following negotiations with the Japanese in March and April 1918, the EFC contracted on 20 May 1918 with the Harima Shipyard Co., Toba, Japan, for one 10500-ton Design 1120 ship, EFC Hull 2010 and Yard No. 13. The EFC also purchased one similar ship previously built by Harima: Yard No. 9 (Eastern Shore, 11054 dwt). Specifications: Design 1120 (S.S. Eastern Soldier, EFC Hull 2010): Steel Cargo. Deadweight tons: 10500 designed, 10625 actual. Dimensions: 425' length pp x 53.7' beam mld. x 37.5' depth mld., 28.8' draft loaded. Propulsion: 1 screw, 1 triple expansion engine, 3 Scotch boilers, 3200 IHP, 10.5 kts. Configuration: Flush shelter deck, 3 decks, 5 holds, 7 hatches. |
S.S. Eastern Shore (As Design 1120). This photograph was published in a 1925 EFC sales catalog and labeled as Design 1020, though it shows an earlier ship of the same type that was purchased while building and was completed in September 1918.
