Notes: Following negotiations with the Japanese in March and April 1918, the EFC contracted on 15 May 1918 with the Asano Shipyard Co., Tsurumi, Japan, for two 12600-ton Design 1124 ships, EFC Hulls 2023-2024 and Yard Nos. 17-18.

Specifications: Design 1124 (S.S. Eastern Merchant, EFC Hull 2023): Steel Cargo. Deadweight tons: 12600 designed, 12995 actual. Dimensions: 445' length pp x 58' beam mld. x 40' depth mld., 30.3' draft loaded. Propulsion: 2 screws, 2 triple expansion engines, 4 Scotch boilers, 4200 IHP, 10.5 kts. Configuration: Flush shelter deck, 3 decks, 5 holds, 6 hatches.

S.S. Robert Luckenbach, ex Eastern Merchant (Design 1122, EFC Hull 2023)

Photographed on 3 May 1944 east of Virginia Beach headed east by a blimp from ZP-14 based at NAS Weeksville, North Carolina. She was built by the Asano S.B. Co., Tsurumi, Japan. Luckenbach added kingpost pairs at the extreme bow and stern.
