Untitled Plan for a Harbor Tug ... March 20, 1918

Draft preliminary design plan for a tug prepared by the Bureau of Construction & Repair’s Preliminary Design staff. This drawing represents the one type of harbor tug being considered for construction at this time. This plan provides for a wooden vessel, derived from plans and specifications for a merchant tug of the same length obtained from the commercial firm of Gielow and Orr (according to Preliminary Design Book No.196 at the National Archives.) The plans for the tugs YT-46 to YT-85 were developed from this design (see Photo # NH 104706.)
This plan provides no identified armament and steam machinery in a ship 76 feet long on the waterline and 20 feet 6 inches in beam. This draft drawing does not provide speed and displacement estimates. The YT-46 class was rated at 10 knots and displaced 215 tons.
Note: The original document was pencil on linen (black on white).

The original plan is in the 1911-1925 "Spring Styles Book".
