"AirCraft Carrier (1922) No. # 2" ... September 9, 1921

Preliminary design plan for an aircraft carrier for the Fiscal Year 1922 shipbuilding program (Scheme "No.2"). This drawing was forwarded on 1 October 1921 to the Secretary of the Navy to illustrate the product of direction received following consideration of the "Scheme A" and "Scheme B" designs that had been forwarded on 12 May 1921 (see Photo # S-584-179). The General Board recommended selection of "Scheme B" with an island and funnel above deck on 27 June, approved by the Secretary of the Navy on 8 July. No ship was built to this design concept.
This plan provided six 6-inch guns, electric machinery, and a speed of 34 knots in a ship 850 feet long on the waterline, 97 feet in beam, and with a normal surface displacement of 39,000 tons.
Note: The original document was ink on linen (black on white).

The original plan is in the 1911-1925 "Spring Styles Book".
