USS Astoria (AK-8)

Transiting the Panama Canal in 1920.
Astoria transited the canal twice, once in January and once in October or November 1920. The ship astern is probably USS Orion (AC-11) or Jason (AC-12).

The former USS Astoria, now a New England coal carrier, entering port in 1942.
She carried coal from Boston to ports in Maine until she was wrecked in March 1943.
