The radar tower over the bridge and the small funnel extension were probably fitted during a refit at Oakland, California, in July to September 1942.

Near the Mare Island Navy Yard on 17 February 1944 after completion of an overhaul.
The radar tower was probably enlarged and given a topmast during this overhaul, which began in December 1943.
