Near the Mare Island Navy Yard on 7 January 1945, a few weeks after commissioning.
The tall structure amidships was a 160-ton capacity crane for lifting LCT's on and off the decks of LST's at advanced bases.

Underway with her armament in "mothballs."
This ship was in commission between January and June 1948 without reactivation of armament, and later saw service in MSTS with a Navy crew.
