USS Polar Land (ID # 3651), 1918-1919.
Originally, and later, S.S. Polar Land (American Refrigerated Cargo Ship, 1918).

Polar Land, a 4131 gross ton (8835 tons displacement) refrigerated cargo ship, was completed at Baltimore, Maryland, in October 1918. The Navy placed her in commission in November 1918 as USS Polar Land (ID # 3651). The ship loaded a cargo of general Army supplies at New York and sailed in December in a convoy bound for Verdun, France. Polar Land returned to New York at the end of January 1919, loaded 2665 tons of frozen beef, and sailed in early February for La Pallice, France. In April she carried another 2568 tons of beef to St. Nazaire, France. USS Polar Land was decommissioned in June 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board. During her brief subsequent commercial career S.S. Polar Land foundered near Halifax, Nova Scotia in November 1919.
