Oskaloosa, a 5808 gross ton (12,200 tons displacement) freighter, was completed at San Francisco, California, in December 1918. Placed in commission by the Navy on the 20th of that month as USS Oskaloosa (ID # 3800), she loaded a cargo of flour at Porta Costa, California, and sailed in January 1919 for New York. Shortly after her arrival there in February a planned onward voyage to Europe was cancelled. Instead, Oskaloosa was decommissioned on 27 February 1919. Returned at that time to the U.S. Shipping Board, she remained in that agency's hands until scrapped in 1929.
