San Jacinto (American Freighter, 1903)

San Jacinto, a 6069 gross ton passenger-cargo steamship, was built at Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1903 for commercial service. She was operated on behalf of the U.S. Army through the World War I years, though the Navy considered taking her over and assigned the identification number 1531 to her. In July 1918 San Jacinto collided with USS Oosterdijk (ID # 2586) in the North Atlantic, causing fatal damage to the Navy ship, which sank while attempting to make port. San Jacinto was subsequently repaired and resumed her work for the Army.

This page features all available views of the passenger-cargo steamer San Jacinto.
