Class Notes:
The AUK class minesweepers PURSUIT and REQUISITE were both recommissioned for survey duty on 15 February 1950 and their classifications were later changed respectively from AM 108 and AM 109 to AGS 17 and AGS 18 on 18 August 1951. Through late 1954 they operated off Labrador and Greenland in the summer and in the Caribbean in the winter, and in 1955 both surveyed in the Arctic, PURSUIT working from the Atlantic side and REQUISITE from the Pacific. The classifications of SHELDRAKE and PREVAIL were changed from AM 62 and AM 107 to AGS 19 and AGS 20 on 1 April 1952, AGS 20 also being recommissioned on that date while AGS 19 followed on 14 April 1952. They operated primarily in the Western Atlantic and the Caribbean. In November 1963 TOWHEE was taken from the reserve fleet at Orange, Texas, to Philadelphia to replace REQUISITE. She was reclassified from MSF 388 to AGS 28 on 25 February 1964 effective 1 April 1964, the date on which she was recommissioned. SHELDRAKE and TOWHEE then performed surveys in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War.
