SS John D Whidden (MC hull 1638)

Entering Lake Superior after passing through the Duluth Ship Canal and under the Duluth Aerial Lift bridge from her builder's yard at Duluth, Minn. The temporary sign on her side amidships showing her name suggests she was on builder's trials or a delivery voyage. She was completed in May 1944 and became USS Aquarius (AK 263) in 1951.

  USS Serpens (AK 266) circa 1959
Rovigo, ex George W Brown (MC hull 1639)

A merchant ship of the N3-S-A2 type entering Grand Harbour, Malta, in June 1962. She appears essentially unaltered since World War II except for the extension to her stack. This ship was purchased by Italian owners in 1948 and broken up in 1963. She was completed by Walter Butler SB at Duluth, Minn., in June 1944, immediately after the future Aquarius, above, which was MC Hull 1638.
