SS Schuyler Otis Bland (later T-AK 277)

This image, with its APL color scheme and markings, was accompanied by a press release stating that the ship was to be placed in service at Pascagoula, Miss., on 26 July 1951 in the Round-the-World service of American President Lines, which had been the successful bidder for the bareboat charter for the operation of the ship. She was due to arrive in Jersey City on 30 July 1951. She incorporated many advanced principles of marine designing, particlarly electrically-powered hatch covers which would materially reduce cargo handling time while in port.
