Class Notes:
On 25 Mar 1948 the Navy informed the MC that the 50 tankers requested in October 1947 would be inadequate to meet the increased requirements of the armed services and asked for five more T2s and one T1. It received the civilian AO 138-142 and the former Naval AOG 68 between April and July 1948. See the AO 111 class for a full history of the 56 U.S. Naval Tankers (USNT) that were acquired in 1947-48 and integrated into the new Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS) on 1 Oct 1949. Like AO 111-136 their AO numbers were assigned in alphabetical order of their civilian names.
