USNS Barrett (T-AP 196)

Photo backstamped 10 January 1955 and processed by the MSTS Pacific Area photo lab at Fort Mason, San Francisco. At that time the new ship ran between San Francisco, the Far East, Guam, and Hawaii.

Probably photographed in the mid or late 1960s. The original caption reports that during April 1971 she was prepared for lay-up at Pacific Ship Repair, San Francisco, and on 27 April 1971 she was towed "up river" to Suisun Bay.

Departing Tacoma, Wash., on 8 June 1968 carrying US troops to Vietnam with some troop or crew humor on display. This voyage was the last scheduled military sealift of passengers from the continental United States.
