Underway in San Francisco Bay on 22 August 1952 after completion of her conversion from LSM-275 to ARC-1.

Plan view forward during conversion from LSM-275 to ARC-1 at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard on 28 June 1952. The LSM's forward tank deck has been reconfigured for storage of undersea cables and a new foc'sle has been fitted.

Portuguese Medusa (A 5214)

The support vessel (Navio de Apoio) NRP Medusa moored at the Alfeite Naval Base at Lisbon. She rarely if ever left Alfeite after arriving from the U.S. in 1959 because of the poor condition of her engines, structural problems, and navigational issues caused by her flat bottom.
