USS Aeolus (ARC 3)
Preliminary design sketch for the initial conversion, probably copied from a damaged transparency. Note the bow cable sheaves, the cable machine on the forecastle deck, the cable measuring and testing room under the bridge, and the three cable tanks or wells, the forward one being deeper than the after two.

On 23 January 1958 in essentially her original configuration after a regular overhaul at the San Francisco Naval Shipyard. She still has her quadrupod after mast and her original bridge structure.

At the East Boston annex of the Boston Naval Shipyard in March 1961 with a new after mast and new upper bridge in a temporary color, suggesting they had just been installed. The former USS Kingfish (SS 234) is in the foreground awaiting a tow to the breakers.
