USNS Maury (T-AGS 39)
The first of two new-construction replacements for Bowditch and Dutton underway in Chesapeake Bay circa May 1989 during sea trials. Maury and her sister Tanner were prematurely taken out of service and struck in 1994 following a catastrophic engine failure in Tanner, both later becoming merchant marine training ships. See the AK 284 class photo page for the merchant ship conversion that was to have replaced Bowditch and Dutton before Congressional intervention.
